Set Up Your First Location in 5 Minutes
A step-by-step guide to connecting your UniFi controller and creating your first WiFi portal.
What You'll Need
Before you start, make sure you have:
- A ZuSpot account (sign up free)
- Access to your UniFi controller (Cloud Gateway, Dream Machine, or self-hosted)
- Your controller's URL and API key
Step 1: Create Your Organization
After logging in, go to Settings and create your organization. Enter your venue name and a URL slug (e.g., "grand-hotel" becomes grand-hotel.usezuspot.com).
Step 2: Add a Location
Navigate to Devices > Add Location. Enter:
- Location name: e.g., "Main Lobby"
- Controller URL: Your UniFi controller address (e.g.,
https://192.168.1.1:8443) - API Key: Generate this from your UniFi controller settings
- Site ID: Usually "default" unless you have multiple sites
Click Test Connection to verify everything works.
Step 3: Configure Your Plans
Go to Plans and set up your WiFi plans. We recommend starting with three:
- Quick Access — 1 hour, ₦200
- Standard — 3 hours, ₦400 (mark as "Popular")
- Full Day — 24 hours, ₦800
Step 4: Customize Your Branding
Head to Branding Studio and:
- Pick a template that matches your venue type
- Adjust colors and fonts
- Add your logo
- Set your welcome message
Step 5: Test It
Open your portal URL in a private browser window. You should see your branded portal with your plans. Try making a test payment to verify the full flow.
That's it! Your guests can now pay for WiFi access through your branded portal.
